Why Quin needs Zoom Phone recording turned on to do its job

Quin can only work from a call that Zoom Phone actually recorded, which means a call that was never recorded in the first place has nothing for Quin to process, regardless of how important the conversation was.

Reasons a call might not get recorded in the first place

  • Recording wasn't turned on for that particular call or line.
  • A company-wide recording policy that only covers certain teams or numbers.
  • Recording features restricted by a Zoom administrator at the account level.
  • A recording that didn't finish saving properly before the call ended.

How Quin handles it

Recording in Zoom Phone works the way it always has: turned on by a user for a specific call, or enabled more broadly by an administrator across a team or account. Quin doesn't change that process or add a separate recording step of its own. It monitors the account for new recordings and downloads whatever gets created. If recording is off, restricted, or didn't complete, there's no recording for Quin to find.

Say a call recording feature was restricted account-wide by an administrator, and a rep records a client call expecting a recap the next morning. Nothing shows up in Quin, not because of a problem with the integration, but because Zoom Phone never produced a recording to begin with.

Why this matters

Treating Quin's output as a signal of whether a call was recorded, rather than checking Zoom Phone's own recording settings first, is the fastest way to end up confused about a missing recap. The integration only processes what already exists; getting recording turned on and confirmed is the first step, before anything Quin does comes into play.

Getting the most out of it

  • Confirm with an administrator that recording is enabled for the account or team if calls aren't being recorded at all.
  • Check that recording was turned on before a specific call, not just generally available as a feature.
  • Allow up to ten minutes after a call ends before assuming a recording failed to process.
  • Remember that other call participants hear a standard recording notification, which is a quick way to confirm recording started.

Setting it up

Connect Zoom Phone under Settings, then Integrations, and confirm with whoever manages your Zoom Phone account that recording is enabled. From there, any call recorded normally gets picked up and processed once it ends.
