MCP & API

The API & MCP page lets you generate keys that connect Quin to external tools and AI assistants. Once connected via MCP, tools like Claude, ChatGPT, and many more can access Quin's calendar, CRM, and other capabilities directly — returning raw data without routing everything through Quin's chat interface.

Before you begin

• You must have a Quin account
• You'll need access to an MCP-compatible tool such as Claude or ChatGPT

How to set it up

1. Go to Account > API & MCP
2. Click Add API key
3. Enter a Name for the key so you can identify it later (e.g., "Claude" or "Zapier")
4. Click Create key
5. Note your Secret key, MCP URL, OAuth client ID, and OAuth client secret — the secret is shown only once, so save it before closing

You'll use these values when setting up the connection in your external tool. Instructions for Claude and ChatGPT are below.

Connecting to Claude

1. In Claude, go to Settings > Connectors
2. Click Add custom connector
3. Enter "Quin" as the Name
4. Enter https://www.heyquin.io/mcp as the Remote MCP server URL
5. Click Advanced settings to expand the OAuth fields
6. Enter your OAuth client ID and OAuth client secret from the Quin API & MCP page
7. Click Add
8. Claude will display Quin as a custom connector — click Connect to authorize it
9. Review the tool permissions and choose when Claude is allowed to use each Quin tool

The first time you ask Claude to use a Quin tool, it will prompt you to confirm. Click Always allow to approve it going forward, or Deny to block that tool.

Connecting to ChatGPT

ChatGPT requires Developer mode to add custom MCP connectors.

1. In ChatGPT, go to Settings > Apps
2. Click Advanced settings, then enable Developer mode
3. Return to Apps and click Create app
4. Enter "Quin" as the Name
5. Enter https://www.heyquin.io/mcp as the MCP Server URL
6. Set Authentication to OAuth
7. Expand Advanced settings and enter your OAuth client ID and OAuth client secret from the Quin API & MCP page
8. Check the acknowledgment box and click Create
9. Quin will appear in your Apps list — click into it and click Connect to authorize

Once connected, type @quin in any ChatGPT chat to invoke Quin tools directly. ChatGPT will prompt you to confirm the first time a tool is used — click Send Message to allow it.

What to expect

Once connected, MCP-compatible tools like Claude and ChatGPT can access Quin's tools directly — including searching your calendar, updating your CRM, and more. This gives you raw data back in your AI assistant without Quin generating a full response, which is faster and more precise for data-focused tasks. You can create multiple keys to use with different tools and manage them all from the API & MCP page.

Managing API keys

Click the edit icon next to any key to rename it. Click the delete icon to revoke a key permanently. If you suspect a key has been compromised, delete it immediately and create a new one. Treat keys like passwords — anyone with a key can act as you within Quin.

Troubleshooting

My external tool isn't connecting after I enter the credentials

• Confirm you copied the full OAuth client secret before closing the creation dialog
• If you closed the dialog without saving the secret, delete the key and create a new one
• Make sure you entered the credentials in the Advanced settings fields, not just the MCP URL
• Check that your external tool supports remote MCP connections

I don't see an option to add a custom connector in ChatGPT

• Developer mode must be enabled first — go to Settings > Apps > Advanced settings and turn on Developer mode
• Note that Developer mode is labeled as elevated risk by ChatGPT; this is expected for custom MCP connectors

I need to use Quin with multiple tools

• Create a separate key for each tool so you can manage and revoke them independently
