Checking Mailchimp Engagement Before Your Next Client Call

A call is on the calendar in twenty minutes, and the plan is to bring up the newsletter that went out last week. There's no easy way to know without leaving the CRM, opening Mailchimp, searching for the contact, and checking their activity, so most people skip it and open with a vague "did you get our last email" instead.

That's a missed opening. Someone who clicked every link in the last email is signaling real interest in that topic, and someone who hasn't opened anything from the firm in months is signaling something worth noticing before the call, not after.

What gets missed heading into a call

  • Whether the last campaign even landed. A bounced or undelivered email means a reference to it falls flat.
  • What they clicked on. Opening an email is one signal; clicking a specific link inside it is stronger, and points to what they care about.
  • Their current subscription status. Someone who unsubscribed since the last conversation won't get anything sent going forward.
  • Which list they're on. A contact search that doesn't specify a list can return incomplete results.

How Quin surfaces it

Quin looks up a contact by name or email in Mailchimp and returns their subscription status along with engagement details like whether they opened or clicked recent campaigns. Because Quin already pulls context from the calendar and CRM ahead of meetings, that Mailchimp detail can sit in the same rundown as someone's meeting history and notes. Quin searches within a specific list when asked, which matters for accuracy since a search that doesn't specify a list can miss results, especially for anyone who's been cleaned or archived.

Picture an advisor with a call in ten minutes and a name on the calendar that doesn't ring a bell right away. Instead of digging through Mailchimp on top of everything else, the advisor asks Quin whether that contact opened last month's newsletter. Quin comes back with the answer, plus whether they clicked the link to the retirement guide in that send, giving the advisor an opening line that isn't a guess.

Engagement data is an early signal, not just a report. A contact who's stopped opening anything in months is often already drifting before they say so out loud, and catching that pattern ahead of a call gives someone a chance to address it directly instead of finding out after the relationship has cooled.

Best practices for Mailchimp with Quin

  • Specify the list when a contact could be on more than one. This keeps the search accurate and avoids missed results.
  • Treat archived or cleaned matches with caution. Someone who no longer appears easily in a search may not be reachable through Mailchimp anymore.
  • Look at engagement trends, not just the latest send. One skipped email means less than a pattern across several.
  • Reconnect the integration if searches stop returning results. A connection issue looks the same as a contact not existing, so check the connection first under Integrations.

Setting it up

Connect Mailchimp under Settings, then Integrations, and approve the permissions Quin requests. From there, ask Quin to check a contact's Mailchimp activity before a call, or add it to a daily brief workflow so engagement shows up alongside calendar and CRM context each morning.
